From: Justin Fletcher To: regdevs@riscos.com Subject: Developer missive 3 X-Organization: RISCOS Ltd Date: Tue, 14 Mar 2000 16:27:38 GMT Hiya, There aren't quite so many things to be said in this missive, so I'll keep it quite brief... Icon bar priorities ------------------- We've been working on some documentation as to the positioning of devices on the left of the iconbar. The priorities of these have been updated to 'fit in' with the implied usage from the PRMs. For most file-systems this will have no impact. This clarification should mean that misplaced icons do not happen in future. A TechNote will be issued when complete, contact us for more details prior to that. Clipboard protocol ------------------ Quite a bit of work has been happening with the Clipboard protocol recently, as you will no doubt be aware. I've compiled a list of the problems I've found with implementations of the Clipboard protocol on the website. See http://www.riscos.com/devsupport/regdevs/ClipboardProtocol for more details. This document has been specifically constructed without refering to any particular applications. When I find time I will attempt to contact Clipboard application authors who I am aware of who are misusing the protocol. Please check that your application follows the protocol, though. If you have any problems with the recommendations in the TechNote, then let us know. ROM Patch 5 ----------- Despite this having been available for around five weeks, only three replies have been received about this. Several developers/dealers have queried when it will be released. We are keen not to release it until it has had some testing. Please, please, please, can you test it ? AND LET US KNOW ! :-) Toolbox modules --------------- Updates to the Toolbox modules went on the site a couple of weeks back. Can you please let us know how you get on with these. We feel them to be stable, but as with the ROM Patch, we would very much like to have positive feedback before letting it into the wild. Website ------- A little while ago, the website moved machines. Consequently, the website was down for about 12 hours. To anyone who could not reach the site at that time, apologies. I'm hoping to spend some time reorganising the site some time soon but, as you can understand, spare time is a scarcity ! Thanks, and beta test --------------------- Thanks to those people who have been testing the Clipboard applications, Printers, and PNG things that have been released. As time passes, and we discover which developers are best at providing useful feedback, we may start releasing early versions to specific developers for testing. This is already happening with !Printers, and is likely to extend to other components. NDA --- Remember that everything on the developer site and that you receive from us as developers is confidential and is covered by Non-Disclosure-Agreements. This includes details on the Conference CD. -- Justin Fletcher, Software engineer, RISCOS Ltd Personal URL: http://www.movspclr.co.uk/
