From: Justin Fletcher To: regdevs@riscos.com Subject: Developer missive 2 X-Organization: RISCOS Ltd Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2000 17:05:27 GMT Hiya, I'm hoping that we can get out a developer missive once a month to let developers know what's happening, and hopefully so that they can give us some real feedback. Admin ----- Initially it was intended that developers contact the list server here to request being added to the mailing list. It seems that only a few have done so, so I've typed up the complete list as I have it here of registered developers. Consequently you may not be receiving this message at the right mailbox and may want to have it changed. If you can let us know both the old and the new addresses and I'll update the recipients as required. Website ------- The registered developer website has been available for some time, but to refresh your memories, http://www.riscos.com/devsupport/regdevs/ will take you there. You'll need the developer number and password you were sent with your confirmation letter. If you don't have this, or it doesn't work, let us know and I'll try to fix it. The site currently has (quick summary) : * RISC OS 4 disc build * RISC OS 4.01/4.02 patch 5 * RISC OS 4 messages files * TaskManager Acknowledgements Technote * Clipboard protocol Technote * Laziness (Lazy taskswapping disabler/enabler) * Printers 1.64 release candidate 1 (developer test version) * FontSetup 0.06a * ChangeFSI 1.17 * Developer Conference details, and copy of the CD * Developer missives I'm hoping to keep this up to date and at some point to rearrange the site so that it's a little easier to traverse. For now, please bare with me. Recent changes -------------- Over the last couple of weeks there have been a few updates : * FontSetup 0.06a Enhanced font configuration utility. This needs using and comments fed back to us. * ChangeFSI 1.17 PNG import added. This needs using and comments fed back to us. * Clipboard update Notes on the Clipboard protocol implementation. Read this if you implement the clipboard protocol in your applications. It is important that applications begin to use the Clipboard protocol more widely. * ROM Patch 5 This (hopefully!) concludes patches that RISC OS 4 requires. Previously versions of the Patch have been sufficiently broken to be nearly useless. Testing and comments -------------------- Of the above additions, three really need some testing. We hope that developers can see what we've been up to by placing them on the web site, but we do ask that you at least try things out if you can. The only way we can develop our software to a standard that you need it is with some testing and comments. Support ------- For any developers who were unaware, developer email should come to devsupport@riscos.com. Please do contact us if you find problems or want to know something about RISC OS 4. What we have ------------ One of the things that was discussed at the developer conference was the source that we actually have access to and can directly support. Basically this comes down to "The things that come with RISC OS 4 and aren't the Bundled apps". There are a few minor additions to this, in the form of some development tools and some additional Toolbox modules, but that's about it. I think it's wise to stress that we don't have the source to the C/C++ compilers, DDT, assembler, network driver modules or URL module, Lander, OnmiClient, Replay, Java, Browse, WebServe, other InterTalk derived products, or anything else which is not part of the standard RISC OS 4 or previous variants. NDA --- Remember that everything on the developer site and that you receive from us as developers is confidential and is covered by Non-Disclosure-Agreements. This includes details on the Conference CD. -- Justin Fletcher, Software engineer, RISCOS Ltd Personal URL: http://www.thevillage.ndirect.co.uk/justin/
